HACKNEY EMPIRE NAILS
HOH VS WAH!
WAH NAILS has firmly established itself as one of the hottest hot spots in Hackney by offering up boom nails in a brilliantly girlie environment. Not lame girlie though, these chicks are part of the 90s resurgence that’s taken over town; with a firm appreciation for Clueless, the Fresh Prince and Biggie. All good things that have a special place in HOH headquarters. Getting our models nails did in the HOH print by the WAH girls was one of the highlights of our campaign shoot.

LAWS DRAWS
Frank Laws illustrator extraordinaire, CSM alumni and Bare Bones contributor, brought our room ideas
to life in watercolour and ink. Back in the golden age of decorators pre CAD design, interior designers would
etch their ideas in pencil to present to their clients. We were blown away by the elegant, languid quality
to his drawings. He found the time to sit down with us and answer a few of our hard hitting HOH q&a’s:
What do you love about Hackney?
My studio, Pembury estate, Hackney Empire, bricks…The architectural list could go on and on
Who would you share the love seat with?
Some brushes, some ink & some paper
Are you a maximalist or a minimalist when it come to your interior style?
I need some furniture-alist
If you could sneak away with one product for HOH what would it be?
Dalston Rose super King sized bed
If you could pick two pick to have a chat with in the conversation seat who would it be?
James Ellroy, Raymond Chandler or I would give myself a good talking to
Ta Frank!

CAKE THAT AND PARTY!
We knew there was only ever one woman we wanted to create the scrumptious eats for our Dalston Pop Up Shop. Meet Lily Vanilli, the East London based baking goddess whose decadent and simply delicious cakes offer up a new twist on calorific treats. Her subversive streak matched up perfectly with ours, and for our launch she gave us mini apple champagne donuts served on swords, Absinthe and mint chocolate chip ice cream and hand painted dark chocolate Pistachio éclairs. Hot Dang! We sat down with Lily for a few minutes (in between her marathon 20 hour ice cream making session) and asked her if her maximalist baking style matches her interior.
Hi Lily! Tell us what you most love about Hackney?
Its home to so many people and things that I love!
Who would you share the love seat with?
David Edward Wright
Are you a maximalist triple chocolate brownie or a minimalist lemon tart when it comes to your interior style?
Neither, my space is always just filled with my books and current possessions. Right now bags of flour, sugar, cocoa etc. We need more storage space…
If you could sneak away with one product for HOH what would it be?
The bedspreads.
If you could pick two pick to have a chat with in the conversation seat who would it be?
David & Shay.
Thanks for everything Lily, it’s been yum.
